korean hornbeam no. 5

Carpinus turczaninovii

Height 32" Width 30"

Antique imported Korean Hornbeams are a remnant of a historical moment in the global evolution of bonsai. Specimens from the wild environment are hard to come by and are becoming increasingly rare to find. This particular specimen shows all of the characteristics prized in a tree collected from the mountains of South Korea and is a jewel to behold amongst the trees and culture in American bonsai.

The sinuous trunk shows the characteristic muscling and striations of the Hornbeam vascular system, which contrasts with the elegant, sinuous branching tapering to highly refined tips. Seated in the stunning Me and Raimondi pot, this tree has a presence that goes beyond the common aesthetic  of bonsai. Instead, this Hornbeam's appearance breaks through the common tree form and shows a spirit and soul identifiable to anyone viewing its strength and presence.
