cryptomeria no. 2

Cryptomeria japonica

Height 42" Width 26"

Some trees have undeniable beauty, and some trees have undeniable interest in their ability to recreate the proportions of nature that truly emulate that magic in miniature.

This Cryptomeria is just that. Its straight trunk and lateral branching reflect the abstracted lines of a sentinel upright building to a grand ancient tree. The interest in the silhouette, derived from different lengths and irregular distribution of branching up the cylindrical straight tapering trunk, continues to draw your eye throughout the design. The only thing missing is the presence of a solid base that anchors the vertical appearance of such a size sky-scraping species. This tree was actually layered off a much larger cryptomeria many years ago.

The beauty of this snapshot of this tree is the peak behind the curtains. To see the mechanics of what it takes to get a straight trunk over time. To see the anchors holding the sensitive air-layered root system. These things capture the beauty and rigor of the bonsai process and create further value in what is ultimately achieved through the continual dedication we show these trees as we elevate them to their best selves.
