Emerald Canopies

A portrait of Mirai's creative ecosystem.

There is a place in the Pacific Northwest where miniature redwoods and ancient junipers thrive. A place where emerald canopies are cultivated out of the desire to better understand the natural world, and our place within it, through an intimate connection with the miniaturized tree. Some of these trees were seedlings when Galileo was just beginning to understand our place in the universe, others, the only survivors of forest fires that burned their native homes.

Filmed over the course of the month of August, 2020, this short documentary is an observational portrait of the creative team, and ecosystem, behind Mirai– a world-class bonsai garden, horticultural incubator, technical educator, and creator of living art on the highest level.
